Edna Manley College

In 1976 the Government of Jamaica pulled together all the Schools of the Arts on one campus to form what was called the Cultural Training Centre. In 1983 the Organization of American States designated the institution the Inter-American Centre for Caribbean Cultural Development thus recognizing it as a regional cultural resource institution.

The mandate of the Centre was to enrich the aesthetic sensibilities of the entire English-speaking Caribbean, by it being the only institution of the arts in the region. Although located on one campus, each School was autonomous and administered by its own Director of Studies. In 1995 the Centre was reclassified as a tertiary institution and renamed the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. This led to the consolidation of the College under one administrative structure. A Board of Directors, a Principal assisted by two Vice Principals, one responsible for Administration and Resource Development and the other, Academic and Technical Studies are responsible for administering the affairs of the College.

The College has a population of approximately 1200 full-time and part-time students and an academic staff of approximately 137 full-time and part-time lecturers who are highly qualified practitioners in their field. The Schools of Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Dance, the Departments of Education and Professional Studies and Continuing Education offer essential professional preparation underpinned by a full range of General Studies courses leading to Baccalaureate degrees and Diplomas and Certificates in Studio Art, Performance and Art Education.
